BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW THESE THINGS ABOUT PEACHES

- Written by Bhaavyaa.

Did you know that peaches are a type of stone fruit? This means that their seed is inside a stone or a pit! Pretty unbelievable right?

Peaches are widely eaten fresh and are also baked in pies and cobblers. Canned peaches are a staple commodity in many regions.

Fresh, ripe peaches are a tasty, low calorie food. One average 100g fruit contains around 30 Calories and, if eaten unpeeled, provides more than three quarters of the daily requirement of vitamin C. The soft fruit is easy to digest and has a gentle laxative effect.

Weight for weight, dried peaches contain six times the calories of the fresh fruit. A 50g portion of dried peaches supplies about two-fifths of the daily recommended amount of iron and a sixth of the potassium.

When canned, however, peaches lose over 80 per cent of their vitamin C content and, if canned in sugary syrup, are considerably higher in calories.

Thus, you see peaches are pretty cool. The next time you go to buy groceries, don't forget to add peaches to your list!
